Scholarships Programs

There are many opportunities to reduce Salolampi tuition costs substantially. Read this page to find out about the many different scholarship opportunities. You might also check with your local Finnish organizations to see what kind of scholarships they might have available. These scholarships apply to all the Youth Programs including the new SOIVA Camp, unless specified for a particular program.

Additional Scholarships

We encourage you to study the new and increased scholarship offerings, and by planning, you can reduce tuition costs substantially. Due dates for some scholarships are somewhat flexible. Make contacts today.

Travel Scholarships

Enrollees in the two-week and one-month sessions from the east, west, and south coastal states, plus Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, and Hawaii, receive $125. Enrollees from all other states will receive $75, excludes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. (Available until $2,000 is expended.)

•NEW! Go From Exploration Session to Youth Immersion Session

A villager who has attended an Exploration Session and in rolls in a Youth Immersion session will be eligible for a $100 scholarship.

(Available on a first-come basis until $1,000 is expended.)

Upper Peninsula Scholarships

Youth from 497, 498, or 499 zip code areas are eligible to apply on a first-come basis for either a $150 Exploration Session, $250 Youth Immersion, or $450 High School Credit session scholarship. (Available until $2,000 is expended)

Suomi-Koulu Scholarships

A Finlandia Foundation Grant A $100 scholarship for a villager who has attended a Suomi-koulu. (Finnish Saturday School). Download Application HERE or write to the Salolampi Foundation by April 1, 2008.


Needs Based Scholarships

Concordia Language Villages

Assistance primarily based on financial need, also taking into account multiple members of an immediate family. Contact Concordia Language Villages at 800-222-4750, Ext. 314, for information. Deadline for financial assistance is MARCH 1, 2008.

Helen Salo Mitchell Scholarships

Are needs-based scholarships determined by Concordia Language Villages. Call 800-222-4750 for information. Application deadline: MARCH 1, 2008.


Regional Donor Scholarships

Ohio Roege Scholarship

When registering, youth from Ohio or with immediate family in Ohio are eligible on a first-come basis for either $150 Exploration Session, $250 Youth Immersion Session, or $450 High School Credit session scholarship. Kisarit Finnish American Folk Dancers

Kisarit Finnish American Folk Dancers, Twin Cities, will award ONE $500 scholarship to a qualifying High School Credit Session. Request information from Kathleen Jackson, 3225 Century Ave S, Woodbury, MN 55125; 651-739-3102. Application deadline: March 30, 2008.

Finnish American Cultural Activities (FACA)

Finnish American Cultural Activities (FACA), Twin Cities, Offers scholarships of $100 to Exploration Session Villagers and $200 to Youth Immersion Villagers who are children or relatives of a FACA member. Thomas M. Seppi Scholarships

This scholarship will awards two (2) $100 scholarships for a Exploration Session, ONE $300 scholarship for Youth Immersion session, ONE $500 scholarship for a High School Credit Session. Priority to residents of Minnesota; priority to St. Louis, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and Cook counties. Contact: Claire Seppi, 826 S 3rd St., Virginia, MN 55792; 218-749-1345. George A. Kakela Scholarship

A minimum of $250 will be awarded to a High School Credit Session Villager from northeastern Minnesota or to an applicant with family ties to the 557 zip code area. Those interested should send a copy of their Salolampi application form, listing school activities, extra curricular activities, connection to northeastern Minnesota, and telling why Salolampi is important to them. Harold W. Wiitala Memorial Scholarship

TWO $250 scholarships will be awarded to students who live in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan. Send a 100+ word theme, "Why I Wish to Attend Salolampi," and a copy of your Salolampi application form to Harold W. Wiitala Scholarship, Salolampi Foundation, P.O. Box 14480, Minneapolis, MN 55414-0480, before MARCH 30, 2008.
